Background info on the songs on the new EP.

1/ Don’t have to see that way
This song came about after attending a festival in Cornwall in the South west of England.
We were there with a group of friends and one of them was raving on about politics to the point of obsession and clearly making himself unhappy. The song is a gentle response concerned with’ how one can get wrapped up in constant thinking of ”how the world is a bad place” and not see the other side.

You can, t protect everyone from everything
Chaos acts randomly have their course
There are some people believe everything they think
So I don’t try to see that way at all.

A friend of mine was reeling about the way we are controlled.
I said’’i’m aware of some deception going on’’.
But you can look at all of this through brand new eyes
So you don’t have to see that way at all

I share your’re concern my brother.
And I know where your’e coming from.
But to think that way gets your mind racing.
So I try not to see that way at all.

It’s a game that keeps you guessing that the world is on it’s knees.
If you bow its only you that makes the call.
This world is so beautiful in oh so many ways
So you don’t have to see that way at all.

As he lay back in his chair just thinking of the rift
As I reached across he did not decline on the lift.
So when you think you have all the answers take a pause.
Sit back relax and take a bath and don’t see that way at all.

2 /Unfinished everything
The theme to this song is completely fictitious.
The idea for the lyric came quite quickly a few years ago but never got recorded until this year.
It centres around two drunks who go out on the town only to miss their last train and manage to get arrested. Once they have been in the cells for a couple of nights decide to go out after being released and pick up where they left off.

We’ll sleep very cheaply.
Last train’s down the track.
Caught in the rain with no money.
Too far gone to roll back.

The whole days been stolen.
But it’s us who are the thieves.
We say ‘hello got a cigarette? ‘to the people we meet.

The cares of our lives drowned in happiness for one night.
Talking on through this full bottle.
Trying to put the world to rights.
Trying to remember if I was here yesterday.
And I’m trying to forget how I ever lost my way.

We went to the circus in the middle of the night.
To set free all the animals as well as the ones here in sight.
But we got taken down well at least it was dry.
But in the morning I discovered I could not pay the fine

The cares of our lives drowned in happiness for one night.
Talking on through this full bottle.
Trying to put the world to rights.
Trying to remember if I was here yesterday.
And I’m trying to forget how I ever lost my way.

Still here on a Sunday.
And I’m hoping for a prayer.
They came in and said ‘you should be on your way.
I discovered a twenty.
I said’we’ll go for a drink.
If there’s a lord the giveth.
The landlord taketh away.

The cares of our lives drowned in happiness for one night.
Talking on through this full bottle.
Trying to put the world to rights.
Trying to remember if I was here yesterday.
And I’m trying to forget how I ever lost my way.

3/Sacred spirit
This song was written on a trip to America where I spent three months in a Spiritual community.
Next door to the community was a place called the Flying Dear nature centre.
In the centre they taught kids of all ages Native American practices of how to forage for food and build a shelter and basically how to survive in the wild.
The song is also about the fact that on this land, which had been occupied by firstly the first nations then the Shakers and then the Sufi’s, shows a time line of different groups who have all been different in expression, but who have all had peace in mind no matter the group. Also along with attending a peaceful protest at the time when the government were trying to lay a huge pipeline through the centre of North Dakota on Sioux ( Lakota) land made an interesting subject matter for this song.

They were travellers on this road.
the same destination.
To let peace be their guide.
Their ever faithful constant companion.
This land can be a close friend.
No matter what flies or falls.
When the eagle rises up, we’re not so tall.

Let the sacred spirit lift you up
Let the sacred spirit guide you home.
Let your children tell your stories to be told

Let the sacred spirit lift you up
Let the sacred spirit guide you home.
Give the knowledge to your Children to unfold.

The mirror of this mortal life became misty over time.
The ancestors know what’s reflected there between the shadows and the light.
The pictures drawn in the sand had the meanings redefined.
This life we think we have control ‘will pass us over down the line.

Let the sacred spirit lift you up
Let the sacred spirit guide you home.
Let your children tell your stories to be told

Let the sacred spirit lift you up
Let the sacred spirit guide you home.
Give the knowledge to your Children to unfold.

4/ Unfold again.
This is the second of two songs that were written in America.
The community where I stayed has a mountain retreat where I used to go walking. It was when I took a stroll and the seasons were changing from summer to autumn and the peacefulness was so profound.
It was if time had stood still and what occurred to me is that everything passes.
The feeling can’t be explained but it’s the best way I can convey it here in words.

A spinning leaf.
Falls from the tree
Another vision of the cycles turning
Another thought of this world changing once again.

Fading back to that nameless place.
From where at once all is revealed.

Our hearts yearn from what is natural to us all.
The breath from where we come and for us to go.
But don’t lament the passing of the memory screen.
The fading of this moment will unfold again.

As I walk these streets of unfamiliar paths.
I hear the words of Rumi in this dream.
To penetrate the place where nothings gained.
Where do the pictures come to dissipate.

The suns rays are shining.
Although the eyes don’t see.
The river it may flow on top but there’s stillness underneath.

The movement of all grace doesn’t need to be explained.
The fading if this moment will unfold again.
Unfold again.

The track below was commissioned in 2016 for a project to help raise money to get aid to people in Syria during the war.
